About Facelift Surgery
At DeRosa Center Plastic Surgery in Palm Beach, FL, we specialize in a variety of facial cosmetic surgeries. One of the most popular surgeries at our clinic is a facelift. This procedure concentrates on distinct areas of the face to tighten loose skin and to create a smooth, more youthful appearance. Based on your concerns and goals, a facelift can help with the skin around the eyes, the cheeks, and mid-face. Plus, it can help reduce saggy, wrinkly skin on the bottom section of the face, including the mouth, jowls, and neck. The facelift treatment that we use depends on your goals, the condition of your skin, the amount of laxity present, your lifestyle, age, and anatomy. Some individuals want a full facelift while others may only need a mid-face lift. Our double board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Jaimie DeRosa, understands the delicate and complex techniques of a facelift procedure. Our objective is to create a natural look that's smooth and appealing.

Is A Facelift Right For You?
If you notice facial wrinkles, deep lines, and saggy skin on your entire face or on specific areas, a facelift could help reduce some of these issues. Depending on your unique needs and goals, a facelift can address various sections of the face. It is important to understand that age does not necessarily dictate the appropriate time to have a facelift. At your consultation, we will discuss your concerns and the various lift types. The lifting technique chosen is different for patients who are between 30 and 40 years old versus those in their 60s and 70s. Skin elasticity is one of the most important elements in the planning process. Our doctors recommend that facelift patients be physically healthy, refrain from smoking, and have realistic expectations.
Facelift Surgical Technique
No matter the issue you wish to correct, patients have several facelift options to consider. Some facelifts rejuvenate the upper area of the face, and others focus on the middle and lower. Also, some procedures tend to be slightly more invasive and intricate than others. It's very common for some individuals to have an eyelid lift, brow lift, or BOTOX and fillers to complement their final results. Some of the well-known facelift techniques include:
- Full Facelift
Considered the gold standard, the full facelift usually places an incision near the hairline, then extends down to the temples, stopping near the base of the ears. The underlying facial muscles are gently pulled and tightened to produce a lifted outcome, which softens excessive wrinkles and sagging. A full facelift is reserved for individuals who show signs of aggressive aging. During a full facelift, several techniques may be combined, including an eyelid lift to address the eyes or a neck lift for the lower region. - Mid-Facelift
Incorporating a similar approach to the mini facelift, the cheek lift (known as a mid-facelift) addresses the droopy features close to the cheekbones and the upper jaw. The mid-facelift works great for those who hope to attain improvement in the middle to lower region of the face, which also improves the look of the jowls. - Lower Facelift
A lower facelift corrects the neck and chin and sometimes the jowls. For chin reduction, we can also perform nonsurgical methods, such as laser skin tightening or KYBELLA to attain a younger-looking neck. - Mini Facelift
During a mini facelift, a small incision is placed near the ears to lift the skin, which enhances the mouth and jawline. This technique creates subtle improvements that look beautiful and natural.
What to Expect
After surgery, we will monitor and then release you. Because of the complexity of the surgery and the use of anesthesia, patients will need to arrange someone to take them home. Before your facelift, a member of our staff will schedule your follow-up visits and go over post-op instructions to ensure proper healing. You should expect to have bruising, swelling, possible drainage, moderate pain, and soreness, which may be reduced by pain medication. Patients should feel and physically look normal after about a month. After you heal, you can expect a softer, more youthful appearance. Overall, your face will appear slightly lifted and rejuvenated.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a facelift cost?
The cost of your facelift will vary based on the technique and other factors. In your consultation, we will create your unique treatment plan based on your needs and goals. After creating the treatment plan, we can discuss the cost estimate. To avoid results that look unnatural, it's better to concentrate on finding an experienced surgeon instead of the lowest price. DeRosa Center Plastic Surgery can help you find low-interest financing that will make your facelift affordable.
Which technique is best for me?
The best technique for you will vary based on your concerns, goals, level of skin laxity, which areas are being addressed, and more. To produce the results you want, we will go over the different techniques during your consultation. Our team can then help you decide which technique is best for you.
Should I get a surgical or nonsurgical facelift?
Although there are many great noninvasive skin tightening procedures, these can only give you small improvements. For moderate to severe skin sagging, a surgical facelift is the best choice to significantly improve your appearance. During your consultation, one of our expert facial plastic surgeons will discuss your choices, including nonsurgical procedures, to help you decide what works best for your goals.
What about wrinkle fillers and relaxers over facelift surgery?
Injectable wrinkle fillers and relaxers, like Juvéderm and BOTOX, have become more popular to refresh the face. Also known as a liquid facelift, injectable wrinkle treatments are good for early signs of aging, but the results won't last more than 1 – 2 years. A facelift can produce more dramatic improvements than injectables with long-lasting results. Ask us about nonsurgical wrinkle treatments during your consultation.
Will my results look natural?
Some patients worry that a facelift will make their skin look too tight or shiny. Our team focuses on giving you results that look natural so you look refreshed, not fake. We listen to your needs and goals before creating your custom treatment plan with the technique that will produce your best results.
